So if you clicked on this blog I’m assuming you’re a little curious about what to expect when you work with a copywriter. Let's remove the mystery! I’m about to dish all the not so secret details... (Although I can’t really speak on behalf of all copywriters) so this is my insider snap shot. A sneak peek of what to expect when you work with Word Winnow.

First let’s clear something up… many people ask ‘what is copywriting?’ or ‘what does a copywriter do?’ Copywriting (not to be confused with copyrighting) is all the words used to convey your brands messaging to your customers. Copywriting answers questions, solves problems, draws your potential customers in and ultimately puts dollars in your bank account … It’s your sales pitch (without sounding salesy).

So when you choose me as your copywriter, it simply means I write words on your behalf aka professional writing for your business. BUT before I begin crafting sentences, I need to learn to walk and talk like your brand. So I get to know your business/ brand/ blog a little better. I delve into the essence of your story, probing to distinguish the very heartbeat of what your brand stands for.

How do I do this you ask? 

STEP 1. I read every page of your website.

STEP 2. I trawl through your social media pages (I promise I’m not stalking! It’s all in the name of research). 

step 3. I send you a FORM affectionately known as ‘The Grand Plan’.

‘The Grand Plan’ is a form that allows you to share more about your brand and plays a central role in my writing process. Within 'The Grand Plan' I request details…...a whole lotta details…. I want to know about your target market, your tagline and/ or mission statement, I invite you to provide brand guidelines, I ask about mandatory information and industry specific language. I ask about your goals for the project. I have you share about your closest competitors and businesses you admire. I ask who you want to sound like and whether you’re more like a McDonald’s franchise or a Louis Vuitton boutique (told you it was a whole lotta details) but before you run off…. I promise the answers come to mind quickly (after all, you are the expert for your brand ) and I need your expert knowledge!!

‘The Grand Plan’ equips me to write copy that serves a purpose and achieves your goal.

Once I've established a thorough understanding of your brand, I set to work writing like a pig in mud….. (If you haven't already guessed, this is my most absolute, favourite part ). I fashion together sentences, pouring over every word to ensure it is the perfect fit; carefully considering tone of voice and language that will set you apart and propel you towards fulfilling your goals. I cull and edit, continuing to refine my words until I know they are reader worthy (aka I’m proud to put my name to them) only then will I send you the first version for review. 

The review phase of the process is your opportunity to provide real feedback... so take advantage of the three rounds of revisions you receive.

I care about you and your goals so I invite you to be honest! It’s your brand, your business, your blog and my purpose in working with you is to give you words that are on point! 

So just come out with it and tell me what you really think…..

FEEDBACK may include: 

a) Start all over. 

b) It needs a few tweaks.

c) APPROVED! It’s everything I dreamed it would be!

0nce you provide the nod of approval for your designer paragraphs…. It is time! Time, to send your new words out into the world to create fluid communication, shape opinions, change minds, influence decisions and create action. (And I celebrate by performing a happy dance.)

The important stuff that doesn’t sound sexy but needs to be said: 

  • I create bespoke quotes based on your requirements. There is no ‘One Price Fits All’.

  • During the quote phase I will establish the Who, What, Why, Where and When with you.

  1. WHO is the copy aimed at? (Target Market)

  2. WHAT is the copy topic? (Theme/ Subject/ Occasion)

  3. WHY- The purpose for the copy? (Goals/ Ambitions)

  4. WHERE will the copy be seen? (Platforms your copy will be rolled out onto ie Social media, Website, Look Book, POS)

  5. WHEN- The date you need the final copy (Campaign Timing)

  • I love writing new things that I’ve never written before! Don’t be shy! Just ask if I can write for you and I'll let you know.

  • Your information and details about your business remain confidential.

  • I'll send you an invoice for a 50% deposit up front.

  • The final 50% payment is required 2 weeks after you receive the final copy.

  • Additional revisions after the third round of revisions may be charged and added to the final invoice.
